SACS Trucking (Safe & Courteous Service) was established in 1989 under the ownership of Marvin McMichael and Lanny White. Lanny also owned Townsend Lumber Company and in July of 1990 Marvin purchased one half of TLC. SACS and Townsend Lumber Company became a limited partnership.
SACS started with 8 new trucks and 16 new trailers but by 1997 the fleet had grown to 18 trucks and 52 trailers. Both owners decided they could do a better job of management by again splitting the business units into two separate companies. On April 1, 1997 Marvin became the President of SACS Trucking and owned half the stock. Larry Pfyffer, SACS Controller, and Danny Poling, President each purchased 25% of the stock. Lanny, then became the sole owner of Townsend Lumber Company.
In 2001, Larry Pfyffer and Danny Poling acquired Marvin's stock and are now co-owners of SACS Trucking. The fleet continues to grow and currently we operate 33 trucks and 70 trailers. Since this time, SACS reorganized and began to build relationships with Roseburg Forest Products, ID Forest Group, Boise Cascade, Clearwater Paper, Weyerhaeuser, Willis Enterprises, Paper Excellence, Canfor and others in the industry to improve our competitive position. Sawmills are installing high tech equipment to get more boards out of every log and so this means less chips, sawdust, and shavings. This forces all fiber users to reach out farther, therefore creating more opportunities for trucking.
We have to adapt and change in the ever-changing and competitive industry to remain a profitable company. We continue to emphasize safe and courteous service and to provide a good working environment for our employees with competitive wages in the industry. We continue to seek out new relationships in the wood by-products hauling industry and to maintain the relationships we have built over the past 30 years. We strive to cut costs and think of innovative ways to be more profitable and to purchase new equipment as we are able. We plan to be around for another 30 years!
